Allocating Space for Green Areas
Through Local and Neighbourhood Plans, local communities are able to identify green areas of particular importance to them, such as allotments, and designate them for special protection. By designating land as Local Green Space, local communities will be able to rule out new development other than in very special circumstances.
When providing for communal planting and the growing of produce, consideration should be given to providing access and availability at a variety of levels. This helps to ensure that those less active or mobile can still enjoy the activity, and can take the form of (for example) raised planters for those less able to bend or stretch, or areas with level thresholds and surfaces suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and walking aids.
