Kat Scott

Kat is a North-Essex-based architect who specialises in sustainability, and climate change adaptation. As 'Sustainability and Climate Change Officer' at Hackney Council, she supports sustainable development through planning casework and strategic planning contributions, including on retrofit. She has had experience on several design review panels and has experience as a guest critic at academic institutions such as the University of Nottingham.

Kat has worked at several well-regarded architecture practices on a wide range of projects as an architectural designer. These include housing-led mixed use masterplans, including in Southend-on-Sea, nationally significant transport infrastructure projects and small-scale housing projects. Most recently at dRMM she was 'Head of Sustainability and Regenerative Design', conducting sustainability reviews, supporting delivery of high-quality sustainable developments and leading collaborative grant-funded research projects, including doing post-occupancy evaluations on holistic sustainability considerations. She has served on steering groups for LETI, ACAN, and Architects Declare and contributed to industry-facing guidance on sustainable and regenerative design best practice.

Kat is dedicated to creating resilient, inclusive places for all. Kat is passionate about supporting climate resilience and better, sustainable outcomes in Essex. She can directly see the impacts of climate change already in North Essex and directly experiences the vulnerabilities the county has, including excess heat, drought and flooding risks. She enjoys spending free time at her allotment near Colchester and exploring the marshy estuary landscapes and extensive coastline nearby.
